Livestock Rearing
By managing livestock ourselves we have complete control of our haylage and farming systems for better crop management. Moreover, we can offer a one-stop-shop for landowners wanting to pursue a mixed regenerative approach.
Livestock
Grazing allows us to rest our land from arable production by growing grass leys or multi species cover crops. This land use sequesters carbon whilst grazing allows us to manage the landscape without the need for synthetic chemicals or heavy fertiliser use for that part of the farming rotation.
Grazing animals tread soil, provide manure and eat weeds, diseased leaves, or unwanted volunteer crops.
Most importantly they provide soul to a farm.
Free-Range Turkey
In 2017 we introduced turkeys to our farm to utilise fallow land and woodland, and provide a source of manure for our crops. This reduces some of our need for synthetic fertiliser.
Our turkeys are Norfolk Bronze and are true free-range birds, being assured by the Red Tractor Food Standards and RSPCA freedom-food assured accreditations.
The site is rented and run by Traditional Norfolk Poultry (TNP) Ltd and they can be found as premium brand whole birds at Christmas time in supermarkets.
Quality Assured Lamb
In 2020 we re-introduced sheep to our farm as a way of better managing the grass leys grown for our haylage brand EH Haylage, and the cover crops in our regenerative farming system.
We continue to rear some 1,500 lambs per year on a contract basis for farms based in the North of England. This lamb is assured for quality by the Red Tractor Food Standards. We also have our own flock of New Zealand Romney Ewes that graze our herbal leys.
